Yes, I may be drunk... and I may be exceedingly surly when I'm drunk, but...

BEST CHORUS ON A SYNTH?

First of all, Chorus is the quickest way to destroy the character of a synth. ANY synth's sound improves with chorus. You can take a goddamned cell phone or birthday card audio circuit and apply chorus, and all of a sudden, it sounds better.
Chorus was goddamned added to the Juno series because Roland knew that the Juno series was LACKING with only a single oscillator... they added the chorus to make up for the limitation... SO THAT they could sell the fucking thing for the tiny price it went for.
Add chorus to ANY synth, and you immediately place it squarely in the 1980s. If that's what you want, then you should be happy to know that the shittiest software synth or digital synth or any sort of synth sounds pretty much the same as the fanciest synth ever once you add chorus... because chorus sweetens and destroys inherent character.

GAAAAAAH.

Oddly enough the only chorus i've really 'liked' on any instrument, synth or guitar, was that from my Randall 250.

It all goes back to your 'age and lack of experience as it pertains to analog synthesis' thread.

all these scene kids don't know tit from tat in the synth world. Marc, you were right when you said that anyone who hasn't owned a non-dco poly will praise the Juno as the pinnacle of polyphony.

I prefer reverb :D
I think chorus, like any effect (except reverb, obviously...) has to be used in moderation, but yeah it's definitely 80s.

I agree but with my Prophet 08 the only chorus pedal that I have liked to date is a '70s Ibanez CS-505 that I've owned since the late '70's. So then how do you feel about phasers then like the Moog?

Right now I'm building a clone of the ARP Quadra's phaser circuit, although admittedly for use more with my guitars than synths. I do like the 'solina' string sound as long as it's not overly wet.

I definitely like the phaser over a flanger... i think the most interesting, perhaps innovative use of flange on a synth was the rhythm track on Kraftwerk's Trans-Europe Express & Metal on Metal.
